OUR HISTORY

The name Wildrose came from our name Wildman and a wonderful Morgan horse named Rose! It was the name of our farm in Colorado and the prefix of the Morgan Horses we bred.

We raised and showed Morgan horses as our family hobby for many years in Colorado. With the horses a Standard Poodle and a German Shepherd were our constant companions in the barn and then in the house. The Morgan Horse is a very smart breed with beautiful carriage and movement as is the Standard Poodle.

After my children went to College and a family illness the horses were really too much work and my interests turned to the Standard Poodle. I got my first Standard in 1981 and my first Standard Poodle show dog in 1996. I continue to show and breed on a limited basis. I am committed to the excellent care, health and temperament of the dogs shown and bred. When we have puppies the only dogs placed in show homes are the ones we keep, the majority go to loving homes as companions.

We have a contract that states the expected care and food, vaccination protocol, mandatory neutering and health guarantee that all new owners must agree to. All puppies are guaranteed for any health issue that is considered genetic.

The puppies are born in my bedroom in a Whelping Box where they stay until they are ready to begin being weaned from their mothers at about 4-5 weeks of age. This allows me to monitor them night and day. They visit the Veterinarian within several days after being born and return for the appropriate vaccinations and worming.

We welcome interested potential owners to visit and learn our expectations of care. We spend a lot of time talking to people interested in a puppy to make sure it will be a win win combination. Puppies do not go home until 10 weeks of age. The puppies are kept from weaning time in a pen with soft beds, many toys and a dog door to an outside run which allows them to actually housebreak themselves. They are groomed weekly from 3 weeks of age, faces feet and tail shaved, nails trimmed, bathed and blown dry. They are loved, played with and socialized by my entire family from toddlers to adults.

All of the dogs are fed a mixture of natural dry food and raw meat. The puppies are weaned to a complete raw meat diet from “Barf”. This stands for biologically appropriate raw food. The food is purchased frozen from a local supplier.

All of our adults are tested and must pass all genetic testing available. At this time this includes eyes, hips, skin, VWD, NE, Thyroid and temperament.

We are proud of the successes we have had in the show ring and performance arena. Our Champions have had multiple Group Placements and even an Owner Handled Best in Show Winner. I show them as puppies and then they are sent to a professional Handler to finish. I have high hopes that my Grand -Daughter will be interested in the future to show the dogs with me. Many puppies have gone on to become stars in obedience, agility and used as service dogs. Most important is that they are loved by their owners and I check on them periodically.

The cost of a puppy varies for each litter; we also have occasional adults for placement.

We only have one litter a year except for those years when we have several that need to be bred before it is too late in their reproduction years.
